Dermal Fillers

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are quick and effective treatments to help maintain a smooth and youthful complexion and sculpted facial profile.

Gel-like substances are injected under the skin to fill in lines (wrinkles), smoothing out the skin, thus producing a more youthful appearance. They can also be used to help volumise and sculpt soft tissue, skin and facial contours. Their effects are longer lasting than botulinum toxins.

Initially your face will look “overfilled” in treated areas. There will be some temporary redness and numbness with varying degrees of swelling and bruising. You may even feel some palpable lumps or hard areas. Most will settle down over a few hours to days.

After your facial assessment and skin markings, your photographs may be taken of areas to be treated.

The injection sites are cleansed with antiseptic solution. Anaesthetic cream application and or local anaesthetic infiltration are used to reduce pain in injection.

Injections, massaging, reassessment and further injections may take 15 minutes up to an hour depending and the number of areas treated.

Once completed, skin markings are cleaned off and ice packs applied to injected as per protocol.

Some pain killers may be prescribed depending level of pains experienced.

Although some areas are painful on injection, with the use of local anaesthetic cream/infiltration and/or Entonox (laughing gas), most injections are easily tolerated.

There are side effects which are common: bruising, redness, bruising, swelling, pain or itching.
